I was on a bit of a hiatus between 2005 and 2007 due to being in grad school, but even then I found a way to make sure my thesis involved designing and developing a nice piece of simulation software.<BR/><BR/>I realized a few years ago that I was going to have to be a self-learner if I wanted to learn the things I found interesting.
